FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Where are the bunnies and how can I meet them?

We are a foster home based rescue. All of our animals are located in group or individual foster homes in the Miami-Dade/Broward areas.

  • Before meeting our rabbits, you will need to attend a BUNNY101 classes and submit an ADOPTION APPLICATION, after which a Meet&Greet with the rabbit can be arranged.

Is there a cost for adopting? I can get a rabbit for free, why should I pay?

Our adoption fee is $100 for rabbits and $75 for guinea pigs. Our animals are adopted out to forever homes only after they have been fully vetted and medically cleared — health is not always guaranteed if you purchase a rabbit from a pet store, breeder or get one free from an ad. Additionally, while you might be able to get a rabbit for free or cheaper, they might not be spay/neutered. The cost of spay/neutering a rabbit is $300-600 depending on the veterinarian. Unfixed rabbits can be destructive, aggressive, may not litter-box train as easily and end up in rescues after dumped. Adopting a rescue rabbit is not only cheaper in the long run, you are helping to save a life!

Do you accept owner surrenders? I found a bunny can you take it?

We are 100% foster home based and do not have a shelter facility. Our ability to take in new animals depends on the availability of a foster home. At this time, all of our foster homes and waitlist are FULL (estimated wait time is 2-3 months).
  • If you ARE able to foster the animal until adoption (this can take up to 6 months) then please submit a FOSTER APPLICATION and one of our coordinators will be in touch with you.
  • If you ARE NOT able to foster the animal you can submit a SURRENDER REQUEST and we will email you when a spot on our waitlist opens up.

Do you accept dogs / cats / wild rabbits / etc.?

Penny & Wild: Smalls of South Florida is a 501(c)(3) small animal rescue; we specialize in domestic rabbits and guinea pigs but occasionally accept other small mammals such as hamsters or ferrets on a case by case basis, if a foster is available.

We DO NOT accept: cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, wild rabbits (cottontails, marsh rabbits) or other wildlife.

Fosters require daily socialization and interaction. Do you agree to socialize them to help them be adoptable?
After being friendly and social, the second most important quality for adopters is litterbox training. Do you agree to help litterbox train your foster?
Advertising is very important to find furever homes. Do you agree to help us advertise and promote your fosters by taking pictures, writing bios, and possibly attending adoption events.
Foster’s will be given a “Starter Pack” of supplies and are expected to replenish perishable supplies (litter, hay, pellets) as needed and provide fresh greens & veggies daily. Foster’s who cannot afford to replenish perishable supplies may request a monthly foster pack of care-fresh, hay & pellets available for pickup or delivery.
Foster’s will need to attend a Foster Orientation | BUNNY101 class (60-75min) via Zoom. Offered weekly, every Monday at 5:30M. Are you available to attend?
