Foster Team

Penny & Wild SOS FL is 100% foster home based. Our ability to save lives depends on the availability of a foster home.

Can you help a rabbit at risk of being dumped outside or a guinea pig on a euthanasia list by opening up your home for a few months? We will provide supplies, cover the cost of veterinary care, and teach you how to care for your new foster. Short and long term option available as well as opportunities for students to receive community service hours.

LOCATIONS: Miami-Dade County, Broward County, Palm Beach County

Volunteer in a Group Foster Home

Don’t have the space to foster but still want to help? Volunteer in one of our Group Foster Homes.

Most of our foster homes are Individual Foster Homes; housing 1-2 rabbits or 2-3 guinea pigs at a time. A Group Foster Home has dedicated an entire room, or multiple rooms, of their home to house fosters. These are usually the first stop for a rabbit or guinea pig that is coming into the rescue before they move into an Individual Foster Home or Forever Home.

Volunteers are welcome to come weekly or monthly to spend time feeding, tidying up, and socializing with rabbits and/or guinea pigs. Children must be at-least 10 years old to attend and be accompanied by an adult.

LOCATIONS: We are currently accepting volunteers for our South Miami – Edgewater and North Miami Beach – Ojus Group Homes.

Foster Coordinator

The Foster Coordinator is responsible for supporting and overseeing a group of foster volunteers. This position serves as the primary contact for assigned foster volunteers, answering any basic questions, conducting regular check-ins to monitor the health and welfare of the animals, gathering content for social media, and coordinating the transport of animals to and from foster homes.

Rabbit or Guinea Pig Care Educator

Rabbit or Guinea Pig Care Educators help improve the quality of life for pet rabbits and guinea pigs by educating fosters, adopters, and the public on proper care practices. Educators conduct group classes and provide individual coaching sessions over Zoom, by phone, and in-person (optional).

Volunteers should be able to commit to at least a few hours per week for delivering classes or coaching sessions. Scheduling can be flexible based on the volunteer’s availability and the needs of the rescue.

Experience:

  • Understanding of rabbit and guinea pig care, including dietary needs, habitat requirements, enrichment activities, and common health issues.
  • Communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex information in an understandable and engaging manner.
  • Comfortable using digital communication tools for remote education.
  • A commitment to animal welfare and a desire to make a lasting impact on the lives of rabbits and guinea pigs.

Sponsor a Rabbit or Guinea Pig

Sponsors help the rescue by donating towards the cost of a spay / neuter surgery, the monthly cost of food and supplies, or emergency medical care for a rescue rabbit or guinea pig. Sponsors can choose to make a one-time or monthly ongoing donation and will receive picture and video updates as well as special thank you notes from their recipients.

Rescue Ambassador

Ambassadors will have the opportunity to meet and and spend time getting to know some of the rabbits and guinea pigs in the rescue. Using this information, they will develop personalized campaigns to promote these animals to their personal networks, encouraging friends, family, and social media followers to consider fostering or adopting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spend time with rabbits and guinea pigs, learning about their personalities, needs, and stories.
  • Create and execute personalized campaigns to promote specific animals to potential foster or adoptive homes.
  • Encourage participation in educational programs such as Bunny101 classes to inform potential adopters and fosters about the care requirements and joys of rabbit and guinea pig ownership.

Transport Team

A huge part of rescue is getting a rabbit or guinea pig from point A to point B. Whether it’s shuttling an animal to their foster home, to the vet or to a forever home we couldn’t do it without our dedicated team of transporters. Volunteers have the flexibility to choose their preferred areas, distances, days, and times for volunteering.

Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record; access to a reliable car; good communication skills and a responsible attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport rabbits and guinea pigs to and from foster homes, veterinary appointments, and permanent homes.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of the animals during transit.
  • Communicate effectively with rescue coordinators to arrange pickup and drop-off times.
  • Follow specific instructions regarding the care and handling of the animals during transport.
